Udinese coach Gabriele Cioffi hints that the equaliser against Milan was probably handball, but he’ll take the VAR error. ‘The important thing is the ball went in.’

Rafael Leao had put the Rossoneri in front on a Sandro Tonali floated cross, but Destiny Udogie bundled the ball over the line, apparently using his arm.

“We played the game we had to play, so I congratulate my team,” Cioffi told DAZN.

Serie A Highlights: Milan 1-1 Udinese

“We were almost perfect, because that’s the only way you emerge from San Siro unbeaten. I got the response I wanted from all the players.”

When questioned on the Udogie equaliser and whether VAR should’ve intervened for handball, Cioffi tried to be diplomatic.

“How did he score the goal? He got the ball. The important thing is he got the ball and the ball went in. Looking at the footage, it could be that Alessio Romagnoli’s boot gets it more than him with the hand.

“There are people in the VAR booth who watched it back. Look, even if it was in our favour, it made up for recent incidents that have gone against us.”

Even Udogie told DAZN after the game he wasn’t entirely sure what part of the body he had scored with.

“The lad told me it was his thigh first and then his stomach, but I also realise it’s unlikely a player will confess to scoring with his hand,” added Cioffi.

  1. have some dignity, savage. Congratulate your team’s effort all you want, take the 1 point, and shut the f up. Any sportman would do that, at least. To play down a scandal which works on your favour like this is just too low.
This is why this kind of controversy keep on happening, there are always lowlies who dignify it with sily excuse and some other day they wonder why it happen to them.
