Reports in Argentina and Italy confirm Udinese are on the verge of securing former Velez Sarsfield defender Lautaro Giannetti.

The 30-year-old is a free agent, as his contract with Velez Sarsfield expired on December 31.

He spent his entire career with Velez, coming up through their youth academy to make 200 competitive appearances for the club.

Giannetti also scored three goals and provided six assists, as well as receiving 42 yellow cards and five red.

As the name would suggest, Giannetti has Italian heritage and therefore Udinese can register him as an EU player.

The Friulani need reinforcements after Jaka Bijol was ruled out for several months by a fractured foot.

Sources including Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Radio La Red all point towards the deal being imminent for Giannetti to join Udinese.
