Inter have been drawn into Group C of the Champions League, where they’ll face Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.

Things have been a little tough in Europe’s Premier club competition for Inter following their incredible Treble winning season in the 2009-10 campaign. Since then, they’ve only progressed to the knockout stages three times, but last season’s Round of 16 exit to Liverpool allows the team to keep their heads held high heading into this year’s tournament.

Bayern Munich will likely be the Nerazzurri’s biggest challenge in the group stage, but Simone Inzaghi’s side will be hoping to channel the spirit of May 22 2010, when they beat the Bavarians 2-0 in the final, capping off their Treble winning season. In total, Inter and Bayern have met seven times in the past, both securing three wins each and coming out level in the other match.

Inter have a long and storied history against Barcelona, having faced them 14 times in the past, starting with two Inter-Cities Fairs Cup clashes in the 1959-60 season, where the teams shared a victory each.

Their most recent meetings came in the 2019-20 campaign, tough games for Inter as Barcelona came out on top 2-1 victors both times. In total, Inter have only beaten Barcelona twice, losing eight times and drawing the other four.

Inter have never faced Czech side Viktoria Plzen before, although they could ask neighbours Milan for some tips. The Rossoneri faced Plzen in the Champions League group stages in the 2011-12 season, winning their home leg comfortably 2-0 but suffering a frustrating 2-2 draw in the Czech Republic.
