Atalanta dominated Celtic and pinned them back into their own half for most of the match, but couldn’t make the chances count and were held to a frustrating stalemate.

La Dea received a boost with Sead Kolasinac and Isak Hien available again, while Ederson played with painkillers, but missed Rafael Toloi, Odilon Kossounou, Marco Brescianini, Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca. They won their last three competitive games, scoring 10 goals and conceding one. Celtic had mixed European results, beating Slovan Bratislava 5-1 and then losing 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund, while Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers were not fully fit.

See how it unfolded on the Liveblog.

Mateo Retegui came sliding in at the back post just failing to get on the end of a Davide Zappacosta cross, while Mario Pasalic was unlucky on 18 minutes to see his header thump the crossbar from close range.

Marco Carnesecchi got down to palm away the Arne Engels curler, while Kasper Schmeichel used his legs to block Pasalic’s finish on the well-worked team move and Zappacosta fired over from 12 yards.

Atalanta dominated and wasted opportunities with another Pasalic and Berat Djimsiti header, while Alistair Johnston made a desperate block to stop Lookman scoring from six yards. On the resulting corner, Schmeichel needed a big reaction save on Retegui’s glancing header.

The second half started in much the same vein, Liam Scales sliding in to prevent Retegui getting to the Lookman assist from a couple of yards, then Pasalic steering another header wide.

Celtic had a rare foray forward with Alex Valle’s shot deflected off Djimsiti to force a Marco Carnesecchi fingertip save.

Schmeichel was at full stretch to palm away the Marten de Roon curler from distance, though Charles De Ketelaere didn’t get enough power on his finish and Zappacosta drilled wide of the near post.

Isak Hien nodded over in stoppages from a cross, as Atalanta were left utterly frustrated.
