Coach Gigi Di Biagio saw improvements in the Italy Under-21 side after Brentford’s Marcello Trotta bagged a brace.
The Azzurrini completed their get-together at the Coverciano training ground by beating the Fiorentina Primavera youth team 3-0.
Livorno’s Francesco Bardi saved a penalty before Trotta netted twice, then Siena striker Valerio Rosseti scored on his debut.
“These few days have helped us with indications for the future,” said Di Biagio.
“I saw some good things, some not so good, but our style of football is improving and that bodes well. Time is on our side.
“When we faced Serbia and Belgium in the early qualifiers the difference was evident, but we have almost caught them up now.”
Italy will play a friendly against Montenegro on June 4 in Castel di Sangro, helping to prepare for crucial European Championship qualifiers with Serbia and Cyprus in September.
“It will be a prestigious test that can tell us something more on our level right now.”
