Tomorrow’s friendly against Slovenia is at serious risk of cancellation after a second Italy Under-21 player tested positive for COVID-19.

There had already been one positive test at the start of the training camp in Lignano Sabbiadoro, so that player and his roommate had been isolated.

Tomorrow’s friendly against Slovenia is at serious risk of cancellation after a second Italy Under-21 player tested positive for COVID-19.

There had already been one positive test at the start of the training camp in Lignano Sabbiadoro, so that player and his roommate had been isolated.

However, this afternoon the team bus arrived at the training ground only to almost immediately turn around and leave again.

There were some phone calls and worried faces, suggesting the latest round of swabs had found another positive test.

That has now been confirmed by RAI Sport, a player who had tested negative on August 30, but positive on September 1.

As per protocol, the entire squad has now been put into self-isolation in the hotel awaiting further tests.

The player is believed to be asymptomatic, but it nonetheless means Thursday’s friendly against Slovenia has to be at serious risk of cancellation.
