It is not just the senior squad suffering injuries, as the Italy Under-21 side has lost Cagliari midfielder Gaetano Oristanio.

The Azzurrini are preparing for the 2025 European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against San Marino on Thursday and the Republic of Ireland in Cork next Tuesday.

They are already forced to do without Atalanta full-back Matteo Ruggeri, Fiorentina talent Michael Kayode and Empoli creative midfielder Tommaso Baldanzi.

Now Oristanio, who is on loan at Cagliari from Inter, has also been forced to pull out.

The bonus is that Willy Gnonto has been included in the Under-21 side, after several months of being part of the senior Italy squad.

Marco Nasti is excluded after he was sent home early in the last Azzurrini get-together for punching teammate Ruggeri and breaking his nose.
