Lecce striker Lorenzo Colombo scored a superb volley goal in the first half of Italy U21 friendly against Japan.

The Azzurrini went to the break up 1-0 thanks to a goal from the Milan loanee, who found the net at minute 39.

Salvatore Esposito regained possession inside the box, helping his compatriot score with a stunning left-foot finish.

Italy U21 have qualified for the 2023 European Championship and lost their previous friendly 2-0 against England last week.

Esposito spoke to Gazzetta after the match, saying that he has noticed English players train to finish more than Italians.

“In my opinion, in Italy, we don’t train enough on finishing,” he said.

“They are gestures that you have to automate, that must come naturally. We kick the ball and eventually we get used to finding ourselves in that kind of situation.

“Then, of course, there are the personal skills of everyone, character, personality, anger come into play. But above all, we don’t train enough on our shooting.”
