Two Brighton fans were stabbed and robbed close to the Colosseum in Rome last night, on the eve of a Europa League game against Roma.
Italian media, including La Gazzetta dello Sport, report two Brighton fans were stabbed and robbed in Rome’s city centre on Wednesday night, before a Europa League match between Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls and Roma.
The pink paper claims Police were alerted by an employee of a restaurant via Monte Polacco, ten minutes walking from the Colosseum, Rome’s most iconic monument.
The Brighton fans, aged 28 and 29 had entered the restaurant to seek help after an aggression carried out by six or seven hooded men. The English supporters were stabbed in the legs and robbed of wallets and documents.
The English fans were taken to hospital. According to Gazzetta, they are not in life-threatening condition.
Preliminary investigations carried out by Italian Police suggest the attack was not perpetrated by Roma ultras.
