Differences between Conte and Inzaghi after Inter’s Champions League exit

Inter have been eliminated from the Champions League despite a 1-0 win against Liverpool last night and Tuttosport highlights the Nerazzurri’s improvements compared to last season.

The Serie A champions qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time in ten years. They had failed to get a spot in the knock-out phase during the previous two campaigns under Antonio Conte, finishing third in the group in 2019-20 and fourth last season.

Inter didn’t only obtain a better result in Europe this season but have shown developments in their playing style, according to Tuttosport.

‘Conte was put in the dock last season, but the judgment is different this time,’ the paper analysed.

‘Inzaghi has given Inter a European footprint. The team doesn’t sit back and counter-attack but plays openly against any opponent and on every pitch.

‘Romelu Lukaku and his teammates were criticised last season, while Inter [against Liverpool] played on a par with one of the best teams in the world and among the favourites for the final victory.’

Inter coach Inzaghi revealed last week that reaching the Round of 16 was the minimum target in Europe set by the club at the beginning of the campaign.
