Inter have been eliminated from the Champions League despite a 1-0 win against Liverpool last night and Tuttosport highlights the Nerazzurri’s improvements compared to last season.

The Serie A champions qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time in ten years. They had failed to get a spot in the knock-out phase during the previous two campaigns under Antonio Conte, finishing third in the group in 2019-20 and fourth last season.

Inter didn’t only obtain a better result in Europe this season but have shown developments in their playing style, according to Tuttosport.

‘Conte was put in the dock last season, but the judgment is different this time,’ the paper analysed.

‘Inzaghi has given Inter a European footprint. The team doesn’t sit back and counter-attack but plays openly against any opponent and on every pitch.

‘Romelu Lukaku and his teammates were criticised last season, while Inter [against Liverpool] played on a par with one of the best teams in the world and among the favourites for the final victory.’

Inter coach Inzaghi revealed last week that reaching the Round of 16 was the minimum target in Europe set by the club at the beginning of the campaign.

9 thought on “Differences between Conte and Inzaghi after Inter’s Champions League exit”
  1. Absolutely zero difference when both teams crash out. It would have been a scandal if Inter would have scraped through last night. They played for 90 mins in a 180 min tie, and were saved 3 times by the woodwork and defensive miracle tackles. That isn’t tactical genius…that’s a fluke. Any other day, it would have been 3-1 to Liverpool, and perhaps more since Sanchez should have been sent off for the first yellow.

  2. I disagree Bukruqul. The first leg we played well for the most part, but didn’t take our chances whereas Liverpool were clinical. If the Calhanoglu shot off the bar had went in, that game could have been very different. Second leg we were lucky admittedly with the woodwork, but held our ground and played well. If Sanchez hadn’t of got sent off, the momentum was changing.

Not saying by any means we were overall better or deserved to go through, but we did well over the 2 legs against one of the favourites for the CL. The gap is there, but we at least put up a very good fight. A good base to start hopefully gaining consistency in Europe.

  3. Its totally different when one crash in the group stage while the other in 16 rounds. People talk about the woodwork last night but didnt talk about the woodwork chance in the first leg by Inter. All in all Inter dont have the strength in bench to juggle between domestic and european while EPL clubs have budget to play it all. The result is not bad for continue the building going forward

  4. Bakrulfull or whatever your name is Inter have 10 times less money to spendera than liverpool give Inter the same amount to spendera and i promise you they destroyed Liverpool plus they would have dominated them your talking nonsense inter had many dangerous chances yesterday also and in the first leg they even had more chances than Liverpool if you are saying inter had nothing and never were dangerous then you shouldn’t watch or talk football anymore the defensive change Liverpool did in the end even if inter where one man down speaks for itself
Like you’ve been watching the first leg? If you’d watch you would probably see that inter hit the woodwork also it’s not just Liverpool who hitted the woodwork so stop talking nonsense

  5. liverpool at their home can’t win against 10 men inter..liverpool don’t deserve to win the ucl title

  6. @Bukruqul… could have been and should have been…. real life football is different than FIFA 22, you know?!

  7. Conte would of done a far better job, but against this inform team Liverpool have, may end up with a same result.

  8. Inzaghi has done better than Conte with a weaker, older squad.

Conte seems to be great in leagues, but his European history is poor.

If Inter can keep their best players and strengthen their subs by quite a bit, Inter could go fairly deep into the CL.

  9. @Nerazzuri Because people like Bukruqul would never point out anything good about Inter or anything bad about Liverpool. What surprises me is that no one is even talking about that ridiculous decision that got Sanchez sent off. He clearly got the ball and the follow through wasn’t even a high foot. Then again, why expect any different when UEFA continually favour EPL clubs in European competitions, giving them favourable ties and decisions.
