Turin local health authority’s director Carlo Picco doesn’t know if JuventusNapoli will go ahead as planned and urges authorities to review the COVID protocols in place in Serie A.

Juventus have three players positive for COVID (Arthur, Carlo Pinsoglio and Giorgio Chiellini) while the Azzurri must cope without Hirving Lozano, Eljif Elmas and Victor Osimhen, who is also out of action due to a cheekbone injury. Italy registered 61,041 COVID cases on Sunday.

Serie A resumes on Thursday with Juventus and Napoli meeting at the Allianz Stadium at 19.45 UK time.

“I’ve been following a series of different issues lately, I am interested in the sporting factor, but I don’t know if Juventus-Napoli will be played,” Doctor Picco told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“I don’t even know if, with the spread of the Omicron variant, we should change protocols. Perhaps that’s the case, bringing attention to the management of quarantines.”

Vaccinated people who are positive for COVID in Italy must be isolated for ten days before undergoing a new swab test. Vaccinated close contacts must quarantine for a week, and those unvaccinated for ten days before taking a swab test.

“The scenario has changed, this variant is very contagious, but not as aggressive,” Picco continued.

“Many people are vaccinated, so an update of the protocols is needed. There will be more cases in the world of football, but that won’t create a health alert.”
