Hellas Verona coach Igor Tudor praised Giovanni Simeone for putting four goals past Lazio and his team for finally keeping a lead.

Simeone scored all four goals for Verona in this 4-1 win over Lazio, with Ciro Immobile making the only response.

Considering Verona had fumbled a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Milan last week, the latest in several dropped points over this season, so there were some nerves when Immobile got it back to 2-1 after the restart.

“At half-time I told the team that we could not let the victory get away from us this time,” confessed Tudor to DAZN.

“The lads were intelligent and knew what they had to do. We saw quality, another two goals and this gives us confidence for the future.

“We always try to play the same way, regardless of the result or our opponents. Evidently, our attitude after the break tends to be slightly different, but I am slowly seeing more consistency across the whole game. It was not easy to control it for the entire match.”

Simeone is a frustrating centre-forward, capable of days like today where he can’t miss and others where he fails even the simplest tasks.

“I hadn’t seen a performance like this for a long time, not just for the four goals, but also his movements, energy, pressing, it was really impressive. I am happy, the goals come from the humility of these lads, it helps bring the quality out and if we continue along this path, we can get stronger all the time.”
