Matteo Guendouzi had wanted to leave Lazio and potentially reunite with Unai Emery at Aston Villa, but Igor Tudor’s resignation as coach could change everything.

The midfielder already clashed with Tudor when they worked together at Olympique Marseille and saw his career revitalised by the move to Lazio last summer.

However, when Maurizio Sarri suddenly handed in his resignation in March and Tudor was appointed in his place, the old problems emerged again.

Tudor was seen as one of the main reasons why Guendouzi wanted to walk away, earning links with Juventus, Inter and above all Emery’s Aston Villa.

Tudor exit means Guendouzi could stay at Lazio

Now that Tudor too has quit over disagreements with the club hierarchy over how to structure the squad going forward, that may well prompt the France international to remain at the Stadio Olimpico.

Meanwhile, Everton and Newcastle United are also interested should the former Arsenal man be on the market.

Lazio are asking for €30m to part with the 25-year-old, who they signed from Marseille for just €14m.

  1. This is good news, hopefully Sarri will come back and without Luis Alberto, Ciro on the bench and Rovella in his 2nd year and fit, this would be a dream.
