Multiple sources report this evening that Lazio have agreed an 18-month contract with new coach Igor Tudor, but he will only take over after this weekend’s match with Frosinone.

The club was forced to find a new tactician after Maurizio Sarri tended his resignation on Tuesday afternoon, following on from four consecutive defeats in all competition.

Assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello and the rest of his staff had remained to prepare for this weekend’s Serie A match, but today the majority of Sarri’s men also walked away.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Martusciello will stay on for the Frosinone game, but the next coach has already been chosen in a summit this evening between Tudor, his agent and President Claudio Lotito.

Crucially, it is an 18-month contract that runs to June 2025, with an option to extend for a further year.

Tudor had not been prepared to accept a short-term deal to the end of the season.

It is a return to Serie A for Tudor, the 45-year-old Croatian former defender whose previous jobs as coach include Galatasaray, Udinese, Hajduk Split, Hellas Verona and most recently Olympique Marseille.

He was also assistant manager under Andrea Pirlo at Juventus in 2020-21.
