“We trust our players, it’s very hard to do without Verratti, but we can’t just wait for him to provide the passes or assists,” Tuchel told RMC Sport.
The coach opted for Ander Herrera rather than Leandro Paredes, joining Marquinhos and Idrissa Gueye, as Verratti is injured and Angel Di Maria suspended.
“We need players capable of running with and without the ball at their feet. Those characteristics lead me more towards Ander than Leo.”
Mbappé is on the bench just a couple of weeks after a serious ankle sprain had threatened to end his season early.
“Having Mbappé come off the bench is possible and he represents a potential bonus to introduce, as does Paredes. I think Mbappé is capable of playing around 30 minutes.”
