Tuchel: ‘Ancelotti is a nice man, but he laughed with the referee’

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was not impressed by Carlo Ancelotti and referee Szymon Marciniak after Real Madrid vs. Chelsea last night:’ I saw the referee smiling and laughing and with the opposition coach.’

The Merengues lost 3-2 at the Bernabeu last night but still managed to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals beating the Blues 5-4 on aggregate.

The Premier League giants saw a Marcos Alonso goal disallowed in the second half due to handball, minutes before Timo Werner’s third goal. Tuchel was visibly unhappy during and after the match and blamed the referee and Ancelotti at a post-match presser.

“I like Carlo Ancelotti. He is a very nice man. When I went to go and shake his hand, I saw the referee smiling and laughing and with the opposition coach,” he said.

“This is a very bad time to do this, and I told him this.

“I’m very disappointed for the referee that he did not check [the disallowed Alonso goal] … but that’s what you get when you play Real Madrid in the Champions League. We had a huge deficit to overcome.”

Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will face Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals. The Italian tactician has won the Champions League five times during his career. Twice as a footballer and three times as a coach. He became European Champions twice in charge of Milan and once as the Real Madrid coach.

The former Rossoneri boss is en route to winning his first La Liga title as a coach, enjoying a 12-point lead over second-placed Barcelona, who have a game in hand. This season, Ancelotti has won the Spanish Supercup, becoming the first Italian coach to do so.
