Massimiliano Allegri appears on course to keep his job as Juventus coach after a trophyless season despite his predecessors both being shown the door after winning trophies.

Maurizio Sarri, in charge for the 2019-20 season, delivered Juve’s last Serie A title to complete nine triumphs in a row.

However, in a season disrupted by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the Champions League campaign was played after the league season ended – and a disappointing elimination on away goals at the hands of Lyon in the last-16 spelt the end.

While Juve had won the title, they did so in unconvincing fashion and lost three of their final four matches to eventually finish one point ahead of runners-up Inter.

That season Juve also lost the Coppa Italia final to Sarri’s former club Napoli on penalties.

Sarri was replaced by club legend Andrea Pirlo who only clinched Champions League qualification on the final day of the campaign thanks to Napoli’s home draw against Verona.

Yet he brought success in the in the Supercoppa, with a 2-0 win over Napoli, and Coppa Italia – impressively beating Antonio Conte’s Inter in the semi-finals and then Atalanta in the final.

Like Sarri, Pirlo disappointed in the Champions League as Juve were again eliminated in the last-16 on away goals, this time by FC Porto.

Allegri, re-appointed in 2021 having left in 2019, has failed to better either of his predecessors’ results, suffering defeat to Inter in both the Supercoppa and Coppa Italia final while Juve suffered another disappointing Champions League exit, losing 4-1 on aggregate to Villarreal in the last-16.

The Bianconeri will likely finish fourth in Serie A, though could still clinch third place with two wins from their final two matches, provided Napoli lose both of theirs.

40 thought on “Trophyless Allegri to stay as Juventus boss, while Sarri, Pirlo sacked after success”
  1. Disgusting juventus, terrible season overall

It’s all just because super stubborn and old fashioned allegri!!!!!

  2. Hes staying because Juve cant afford to sack him, and because hes good friends with Agnelli.

Ha ha ha. What a broken club.

  3. Not sure how Juve can improve with Allegri the directors must see something in him that we cant see, you would have thought that being out of the game for a few years Allegri would have learnt a new approach instead of sticking to his old ways.
    I’m baffled

  4. I’m not expert but I can’t believe what are saying Juve fans. You forgot he won 5 scudetti and many coppas and supercoppas. Also, he made 2 CL finals. So, I strongly believe, from next season Juventus will start to dominate again with Allegri. This year Juventus lost many points in start of the season because Ronaldo left in no enough time to make his replacement. What is miracle is he lost 3 times from Inter, but also later improved and will finish 4th or 3d. And they have one of the best defences. Only big three have better defence (only 2 less goals conceded). With this rythm next season starting from 0 they sure will be next champions. Maybe they lose coppa from Lazio. Sorry, Inter and Milan won’t win trophies for long time, waiting for Allegri to leave Juventus for other challenges like Mourinho and Conte did to Inter.

  5. Football evolves & Allegri hasn’t , his negative changes were partially responsible for juve’s loss along with two very soft penalties in most leagues round Europe I don’t think they would be given ultimately turning the tie in inters favour. Juve dominated when forced to play attacking football especially when Moratta was introduced! Subsequent changes weakened juve as an attacking threat and allowed inter back into the game and invited trouble.

  6. With his patiently defensive approach, don’t bother to bring in Pogba and stuffs all around Europe..we will be 3rd and 4th for more seasons. Please recall Milan will have the cash, and with the same investment no chance for us.

  7. Do not blame Avian Bird Flu Max. He was in a cave for 2 years studying the further arts of the back, back, down, down with his fellow monks. He took the same approach with Inter as he did with those 2 whooped CL final defeats. Start asleep, barely get a good enough reaction, shut up shop and soak pressure for too long and shouting CALMA for the whole game. The fact that he lost his cool is very telling and demonstrates a person not in control of the kitchen.

  8. The fundamental problem lies in the ideas of how allegri sees football.

His ideas are now a regression of modern football.

I think juve fans who attacked sarri and pirlo are the first to take the blame for having allegri.

The truth is i am fine for not winning now but competing and building a team for the future with modern dominant football.

    However allegri cant achieve this.

  9. allegry is a failure , but this time the mgmt need to step down before any changes needed to be done and am pretty sure this next year is final year for agnelli and along with allegry because it marks 100 years for agnellis at juve and am pretty sure for this reason plus the super league project are what keeping Agnelli, although its clear and wide open that agnelli took credit for Marota’s work and Allegry took credit for continuing to sail the ship that Conte constructed. when you combine Agnelli and allegry you get this results while when we combined Marota and Conte we saw a different result we saw them pulling inter from the buttom back to the top. This nasty style of footbal and bad results will cost juve many fans around the world who look for style of play to enjoy the game , unlike the fans in italy who are more bound by different factors. juve will lose many of their fans world wide and we will see this in next 5 years.

  10. 3 jobs. Main one, Crypto trader. Second step father and babysitter to NOrata. Third critic of PhD Medieval Ritiro Max, defender and guardian of the “Feng Shui” slow ball.

  11. It is absolutely mind blowing that there are still juventus fans out there who think Allegri is a top coach. He is a dinosaur who would be out of his depth in a pot noodle. Ask yourselves, who has he improved as a player under his tenure? The team and players have no clue, every single player regresses under him either by his donkey catenaccio tactics or by playing them out of position. He is a disgrace.

  12. Easy PhD Max, Legend of The Ten Rings and winner of 2 CL lost finals, whooped in both to add insult to injury.

  13. Being so harsh on Allegri here, please be little logical, Allegri definitely is not my favorite coach but honestly he did fine with what he has. Ronaldo leaving suddenly, Kean the only replacement until Juventus brought in Vlahovic, so many injuries throughout the season, losing easy games the beginning of the season. Inter and Milan are stronger teams this season, and Champions league is not easy trophy. I am positive Juventus will do so much better next season and Inter will have so much difficulties competing with Juventus in 2022-2023. Mark my words!

  14. Keep doubting Allegri and your Juventus at your own peril.
Yes it has been a terrible season for Juve for many reasons and Allegri is not one of them.
You will all see a completely different Juve side next season.

  15. @Dan,I expect the average XRP price to stay slightly above $1 until November at which point, it will fall below this threshold. I see a downward movement throughout the year. The maximum price may reach $1.2725 in May 2022. However, afterward, the downtrend will prevail, so the maximum price will decline. The fall won’t be crucial, as the minimum price won’t fall below $0.8373.

Some of my colleagues think the average price of the XRP will move above $1 only in November, the overall trend will be bullish. The highest price will hit $1.60 by the end of the year. However, the difference between the low and high price signals increased volatility. The minimum rate will be near $0.40 in April.

I am just hoping the Brandon Administration does not regulate Crypto as there is some uncertainty regarding this. As you know China have banned it as well as 8 other countries. So far Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said recently that he has no intention of banning cryptocurrency like Ethereum in the U.S but who knows with this clown admin.

Unfortunately cryptocurrency crashed below $33,000 on Monday for the first time since July 2021.

But good news as crypto is succeeding in its attempt to gain back its market dominance. As of April 5, 2022, the value of Bitcoin rose above US$47 000

The BTC’s extended rise above US$45 000, indicates the crypto will witness a fresh surge in 2022.

Try investing in Ethereum as it has grown by 61%, compared to 31% for Bitcoin and so far more stable, but as in life things can change on the market.

One thing is for sure, do not put any money on PhD Max to bring anything to Juventus for another 3 seasons.

  16. One of the most successful managers in the history of the club and fans want him out after 1 bad season. How fickle can you get.

  17. Thanks for the detailed answer @LordAllegri re XRP and crypto. Much appreciated. Last few days in crypto have been a bloodbath. You think tether is next to go south? Are you bullish on iso 2022 coins long-term?

  18. @Inter and Napoli Fan 1975

1- People are judging Allegri in the present, not on the past
2- Yes he did well previously, but so he should have done. He had the best squad in the league – by some margin. He also had many of those players in the prime of their careers.
3- He may have reached two CL finals, but a, he didn’t win either, and b, he was humiliated on both occasions.
4- Now that he has a squad that’s weaker than what he had previously, he’s being found out.
5- While the squad is weaker, it’s capable of more than what’s been seen this season.
6- Vlahovic, Chiesa (before his injury), Locatelli have all gone backwards under Allegri, severely so.
6- Everything about Allegri reeks of negativity. Whether it’s the ugly football, his spineless attitude when it comes to giving youngsters a chance, his reasoning ‘young players make mistakes’ – so do the seniors!! His poor standards – ‘we’ve reached our target’ after only qualifying for the second round of the CL and finishing 4th in the league.

I find it amazing how some of you continue to make excuses for such mediocrity. When you see what the likes of Italiano, Tudor and Juric have done in such a short time frame and with considerably less resources – their proactive approach, their clear gameplans, the growth of individual players .. It really shows up Allegri.

This isn’t being fickle, hateful or trolling. This is about the truth, facts and calling out inadequacy when we see it.

  19. He made a mistake returning to Juve. He could have left his nice legacy intact,
and taken on a new challenge abroad. But seeing how his football and mentality
hasn’t changed one bit, it’s difficult for me to imagine how he would have fared
    in Spain or England.
He said this will be a rebuilding season, so next season will be the true judgement.
    We’ll see..

  20. Bruno, good answer. I totally agree. Juve play a very negative and cowardly style of football. Allegri did not adapt to the fast pace evolution of football.

Juve have a good squad but we have some weak players: sandro, rabiot, Arthur, bernardeschi are the worst. Bonucci isn’t as great a defender as people give him credit for. Chiellini the legend won’t be there next season. Cuadrado is getting old. Dybala won’t be there and he is our star player, hopefully chiesa can fill in his shoes.

Overall its just the absolute ugly style of play that pees off alot of fans. Absolute terrible football philosophy.

  21. Sarri inherited Allegri’s 10 season winning streak Serie A team. Pirlo inherited Sarri’s barely Serie A winning team. And Allegri inherited Pirlo’s last match 4th place finish Serie A team. Its amazing that we could even have challenged for the title at one point with this side… Well done Allegri!

  22. Allegri, Sarri and now Inzaghi owe their trophies to Conte who built teams for them. Only coach who hasn’t succeeded post was Ventura.

  23. Don’t see why we cannot vent or be frustrated with poor showings week in week out by this Juventus side with Allegri determined to play 1980’s football. Fair enough he got us to 2 CL finals as all the faithful Allegri fans keep bringing up but he failed to deliver because of negative set up in each final. Cracks were showing in the squad when Sarri won the title only reason we won because of how poor the other teams around us were. Take nothing away from Pirlo man still delivered 2 trophies and 4th place with not so strong squad. But this negative football and bleeding dry the few talent we have left is a joke. So to all Allegri lovers if you can’t handle us criticising him then don’t read our posts. Seen more adventure watching snails in my garden.

  24. Haha nearly challenged for the title, well done.. crazy. What happened every time we could have caught up with Milan, Napoli and Inter. CALMA CALMA and came away with a draw or a lose. Armchair supporters became Allegri’s keyboard worries lol.

  25. Del Piero, do not use his name in vain. We all know you’re Lords other account, saying exactly the same thing and trolling Allegri. Talking to yourself is weird.

Allegri is not great but Juve are limited by who’s available as a good coach right now. The atmosphere isn’t there to experiment as seen with Pirlo, who I didn’t think did a bad job but the club and fans are impatient.

Now they need to take stock, get rid of at least 5 players and bring in 8 useful ones. It’s going to be hard for the next few years, even if winning domestically isn’t too much of a challenge.

  26. Lol 😆 If this was Lords account then insults would be flying around here, there & everywhere directed at a few regulars, I’m just sharing my opinion of our coach and his style of play. Tho he has some valid points about Allegri.

  27. @Lord

i was hoping you’d say comedian as your job.

I wish Juve had invested in Pirlo’s tactics and given him a good transfer market to work with.

  28. IF Allegri should stay as coach for next season, he should be ban to ask for players.Other than the sport director, Juventus needs a team architect, someone who understand which players are needed for the following season and for the future aswell.

  29. 1.Pep you have tiki taka.
2.Klopp you have the high press.
    3.Conte you have the grinta.
    4.Zidane is ice cool.
5.Arteta plays and give youth a chance.
    6. Italiano an upcoming coach who will be destined for better things.

All of them hold nothing compared to the Captain and inventor of the back, back, down, down. When the castle is being stormed, PhD Max goes into 11 man operation Dumbo, “that includes you Dusan” barricade the drawbridge.

  30. For those of you who keep bringing up those failed finals, your life must be miserable keep dreaming about the bygone era. For those of you who still believe this cretin will bring you success, expect another season of humiliation. I was right that this bofoon will end the season trophyless so I am happy. At least you have another finals to brag about next season.
