Former Juventus striker David Trezeguet expects big things from Milan star Rafael Leao at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 23-year-old Rossoneri forward will be expecting to play a leading role for Portugal at the tournament, his first major competition for the national team. The World Cup could also have important transfer market ramifications for Leao, with his current Milan contract set to expire in June 2024.

Speaking to SportWeek, Trezeguet spoke highly about Leao and his expectations for the Milan forward at the World Cup.

“Leao can be one of the protagonists at the World Cup. He is a different player. It’s true that for now he is decisive in the league and less so in the Champions League, but he is growing.

“I think he does well if he has fun. And if he has fun, he’s fantastic to watch, because on the pitch he doesn’t struggle, he doesn’t even sweat.”

The 23-year-old Leao was a key figure in Milan’s Scudetto success last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 Serie A games. This season he’s been equally important for the Rossoneri, scoring seven and contributing nine assists in 20 games across the league and Champions League.

The Portuguese forward has been increasingly linked with Chelsea and so far doesn’t seem close to penning a new contract with Milan.

  1. I am afraid that the diva CR7 will try to dominate the show and Leao will be left lurching.
