Trezeguet: ‘Juventus midfielder Rabiot is world class’

David Trezeguet hopes Juventus will revitalise their season with Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria, but can’t understand why Adrien Rabiot is so criticised. ‘He is world class.’

The former striker was in Monte Carlo this evening for the Golden Foot awards and spoke to Sky Sport Italia about his old club.

“Juve will have to be a protagonist, that is what their history commands, and the players shouldn’t worry about what is happening off the field,” said Trezeguet.

“They’ll have Di Maria back and fired up as World Champion with Argentina, while Pogba and many others can give something extra.”

There are reports today that Rabiot could be sold in January to avoid losing him as a free agent at the end of this season, because the €10m per year salary demands are unsustainable in Turin.

He impressed for France at the World Cup, reaching the Final and losing only on penalties, but since his arrival from PSG as a free agent in 2019 has been roundly criticised in Italy.

“We are talking about a problem for Juventus, because in Italy he may have been targeted for criticism, but in France it’s completely different.

“He is world class, an extraordinary player. Now he will evaluate his options and will go back to being the important player he always was.”

There are reports that Didier Deschamps could quit the France job to make way for Zinedine Zidane, the pair of them being former Juventus teammates and Deschamps was also their coach in 2006-07.

“Didier has a very good rapport with the President of the Federation, so he will take his time and come to a decision. If he decides to leave, then he’ll see what to do in future,” added Trezeguet.
