Giovanni Trapattoni said “it would be an honour” to be Coach of Greece after Claudio Ranieri was sacked.
Ranieri was axed following last night’s shock 1-0 home defeat to the Faroe Islands, leaving the Euro 2004 winners bottom of their Euro 2016 qualifying group.
Trapattoni has been tipped as a possible successor and was interviewed by Greek media.
“It would be an honour to be the Coach of a side like Greece. They are a great team and a country I would love to work in,” said the 75-year-old.
“However, I haven’t heard from anyone yet. I have been to Greece many times and always dreamed of working there. The climate is marvellous, the sea wonderful and the football at a good level.
“I already know many of the international players and I’m sure Greece have the potential to qualify for the European Championships.
“I saw the Faroe Islands game and I really couldn’t believe it. In football these things can happen even to the best of us.”
