Giovanni Trapattoni doesn’t see yesterday’s Italy win over Malta in a negative light, whilst he is looking forward to a ‘beautiful’ Inter-Napoli this weekend.

Antonio Conte is facing early scrutiny during his Azzurri tenure for his side’s lacklustre showings in close one-goal-margin victories over Azerbaijan on Friday and Malta yesterday.

However, he has received the confidence of one of his predecessors in the national team hotseat.

“Our football has become very difficult, but I would not be negative on the performance of Italy yesterday,” Trapattoni has commented on Radio Crc today.

“Ours has been one of the greatest nations in the world for some time.

“Conte is a great Coach, he has experience, but objectively there are nations currently who are at a higher level than Italy.

“To win the World Cup you need to have players in top condition, and also good luck.

“The task of the Coach is to adapt your philosophy of game based on the players available.”

Trap also considered Napoli’s struggles at the start of this season and how they may fare in Week 7’s notable fixture away to Inter.

“In football, the details make the difference. There can be errors from forward, defenders and those from the referee that can affect games.

“Napoli play good football, but then it is results that count most and often it is not the case that victories coincide with a show.

“On a technical level I expect a Napoli that will be a little more spectacular, whilst an Inter side more concrete.

“Neither of the two Coaches will play for a draw and that is why what will come out will be a beautiful game.”
