Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed he could have coached Germany, but did not because of this wife.
In an interview with ItaSportPress, the 77-year old explained how he received an offer from the Mannschaft in 2000, following his departure from Fiorentina.
“When I left Fiorentina in 2000, I was getting closer to joining the German national team,” Trapattoni began.
“I reflected on it, but then I rejected the offer. The reason for the decision was my wife.

“When I spoke to her about this great opportunity in my career, I noticed that her eyes were showing disappointment. I said no to Germany.”
The legendary Coach would not have to wait long for another international job to come his way, however. Later that same year, he was appointed as Italy boss.
Most recently, he also took charge of the Republic of Ireland, guiding them to Euro 2012.
