England came back from 2-0 down to defeat the Germans 3-2 on Saturday and former Bayern Munich boss Trapattoni believes this will give them extra motivation.

“Will it be more difficult after Germany lost to England? I think so, there was a lot of debate after that defeat and so they will want revenge,” Trap said to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They can never stand losing, especially at home. But after all it’s always an open game with us.

“The Germany clash that’s stayed in my heart? I’d say the one in 1982, because it was an Azzurri team composed of nine Juve players and so that win felt a little like mine.

“I know them well; the Germans have a strength and ability to run that we don’t have, but they can’t take away our genius and imagination.

“When I came to coach Bayern (between 1994 and 1998 in two stints) they were still a little behind tactically.

“I persisted a lot on this point, but at the start they didn’t follow me because I didn’t know the language well. So much that one day a delegation of players came to tell me to change something. Then things got better.”
