Milan‘s transfer window isn’t over just yet and the priority of the Rossoneri directors is to sign a new defensive midfielder, reports in Italy claim.

The Serie A champions have signed one new striker (Divock Origi) and an attacking midfielder (Charles De Ketelaere) and are now on the lookout for a new defensive central midfielder to replace Franck Kessié, who has joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

Their main target for the role – Renato Sanches – had been in talks with the Rossoneri for several months but eventually picked Ligue 1 giants PSG.

Several players have been linked with a move to the red and black side of Milan, but according to Milannews, Paolo Maldini’s No.1 target is Raphael Onyedika of Midtjylland.

According to the report, the 21-year-old tick all the boxes for the Rossoneri being young and affordable with a €7m price tag.

Milan began the season with a 4-2 win over Udinese at San Siro on Saturday. Sandro Tonali was injured, so Rade Krunic and Ismael Bennacer started in the middle of the park. Stefano Pioli is now waiting for one last piece to complete his midfield.

“The team is complete, but the market can offer solutions which we don’t even consider now. The directors are always ready and the club is available. If there’s a chance, we’ll make our moves,” the Milan boss said last week.

  1. We missed our chance to be THE team to beat when we lost Renato Sanches and Enzo Fernandez. How this guy turns out is anyone’s guess and even if he eventually comes good I doubt he can help us this season.
