Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio believes Roberto De Zerbi and Antonio Conte are not interested in returning to Serie A with the former Sassuolo coach emerging as a potential candidate for Tottenham or even Liverpool.

De Zerbi replaced Potter in September, keeping the Seagulls in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

He has been linked with a return to Serie A, with Inter among the admirers of the ex-Sassuolo tactician.

However, Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claims the 43-year-old is not planning a return to Italy anytime soon.

“I believe he’s one of the candidates for Tottenham. He has a €13m clause at Brighton and I believe they’ll make no discounts, especially after getting €25m for Potter,” he told Sky Sport.

“Plus I don’t think Roberto wants to return to Italy. I think he wants to continue on this path. It could be at Brighton, Tottenham, or maybe Liverpool or Chelsea in one year, we’ll see, but I think Roberto wants to continue in the Premier League.”

Tottenham have kept Antonio Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini as an interim coach until the end of the season but have already prepared a list of candidates for 2023-24.

Conte walked out of North London by mutual agreement less than two weeks ago and is seen as an option for several Serie A clubs, but yet again, Di Marzio doesn’t see the former Italy and Juventus midfielder returning to Serie A

“I am not sure Conte wants to return [to Serie A]. On the contrary, it could be an option for PSG or Atletico Madrid, who I think will part ways with Simeone. If it happens, I think Conte would be a strong candidate for both clubs.

“The same goes for Mourinho and PSG. It could be a solution because he’s close to Luis Campos. It’s true that he has a contract with Roma, but if PSG call, the scenario would change.”

The Special One is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until 2024 but said on Sunday that “sometimes contracts are not the most important thing in football.” Mourinho has also emerged as a candidate for Chelsea, alongside Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti.
