The tram driver involved in a car accident with Lazio and Italy forward Ciro Immobile this morning insists he didn’t run a red light claiming the Azzurri star ‘came at full speed.’
Lazio have confirmed Immobile, 33, sustained whiplash and a compound rib fracture after a car accident in Rome city centre on Sunday morning.
The striker was with his daughters and they’ve all been admitted to the hospital, where Immobile has remained under observation.
Immobile told Policemen who arrived on the scene that the tram driver had run a red light, smashing into his vehicle.
However, the driver who was also admitted to the hospital alongside eight other passengers denied traffic violations and told Repubblica: “I remember I passed a green traffic light and saw the car coming at full speed.”
Local authorities are investigating, while the Lazio striker will miss the next Serie A matches against Torino and Inter and could be back on May 3 against Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico.
