The French international was rumoured to have struck a deal with the Nerazzurri to move at the end of the season when his contract expires, but it appears he has decided to stay in Ligue 1.

The 31-year-old’s new deal was announced on the club’s official website, alongside Italian defender Andrea Raggi as well as Danijel Subasic and Nabidl Dirar.

“I came here to achieve as much as possible,” Toulalan said after signing the deal, which runs until 2017.

“We did that in the first year by reaching the Champions League. This season we’ve played well and reached the Quarter Finals [against Juventus].

“It’s a great adventure and we must keep going. I’ll try to help the youngsters and perform as well as possible.”

Former Bologna defender Raggi also spoke to the website, and expressed his happiness at prolonging his contract until June 2018.

“It’s a great day for me. I’m very pleased to continue my career with AS Monaco. The club has sent out a strong signal with all these nice renewals.

“We’re ambitious, I think the club can achieve great things in the future.”
