Captain Francesco Totti says that the Scudetto race is still open, provided Roma stop with the ‘blunders’ in the second half of the season.

The Giallorossi finished the calendar year with a 0-0 draw against Milan, missing an opportunity to close the gap with table-leaders Juventus, who are currently firm in their three-point advantage.

“We would have liked to close 2014 with a victory, but unfortunately we weren't able to,” Roma icon Totti has written in the Corriere dello Sport. “The game against Milan was unfortunate.

“It's going to be an open championship until the end, in which points can be won or lost against any opponent.

“But we'll have to be careful to avoid blunders in the second half of the season. We're up next against Udinese, a well-organised team that we will face on a difficult pitch.

“It's going to be important to start out strong right off the bat in the second half of the League, so we can keep fighting till the end.”

In spite of their second place and their failure to qualify for the round of the Last 16 in the Champions League, Totti had a positive outlook about the year that is about to close.

“This was an important year, for me and for Roma. Returning to the Champions League was very satisfying. It allowed us to confront the greatest clubs in Europe.

“The journey didn't last very long, but it allowed us to breathe the atmosphere of Europe's elite once again.

“My two goals, in Manchester and in Moscow, gifted me with an emotion that I'd been missing for too long. They could have given us two victories, but we all know how that went.

“It was only the first step for Roma. With that experience under our belt we'll be looking to do better next season.

“In the meantime we'll look to advance in the Europa League. I'll be playing in Holland again, against Feyenoord.

“In that country I wrote one of the best pages in my career with the Azzurri – it was in Amsterdam that I scored that famous chipped penalty kick.

“I hope to repeat that technical gesture soon, as I've always had a weak spot for it, but I've left it in the drawer for some time now.”
