Totti: ‘Roma can bet on me’

Francesco Totti urged Roma to “bet on me, as my passion is without limits” and he’s trying not to think of his last game.

The captain turns 40 later this month and spent his entire career at his hometown club.

“You can bet on me, as my passion is without limits and I will always be here for Roma,” he told Il Guerin Sportivo magazine.

“I made a dream come true, which was to have my whole career wearing the one jersey that I always loved. The passion and emotion that football gives me is wonderful.

“I made a dream come true, which was to have my whole career wearing the one jersey that I always loved. The passion and emotion that football gives me is wonderful.

“It was not a weight on my shoulders, even if I had to make some sacrifices. I always tried to live the profession with a certain detachment, maintaining the capacity to have fun on the field.”

Totti had some issues with Coach Luciano Spalletti last season, but they cleared the air.

“There is the utmost respect for our roles. I am sure the Coach can do great things with us. I am obviously at his disposal the moment he calls me into play. I hope that a great season awaits us together.

“President James Pallotta? You don’t need to speak the same language to understand each other as humans.”

Roma are out of the Champions League, while the Scudetto race will be tough against strengthened Juventus, Napoli and Inter.

“Juve have won five consecutive titles and added more players, so it’s only normal they start a step above the rest. However, we are certainly not beaten before we even begin and will do everything to overturn the predictions, giving great joy to our fans.

“Clearly we mustn’t just focus on one team, as there will be other clubs challenging for the Scudetto.”

Totti’s contract is due to expire in June 2017, so is he thinking about his farewell match?

“Obviously sooner or later I will have to think about it, but for now I don’t want to.”
