Francesco Totti once again did not rule out a return to professional football in some capacity, and has shared his thoughts on Claudio Ranieri for the first time since his appointment as Giallorossi head coach, suggesting that the 73-year-old could have a say on his own return to Roma.

Totti has said multiple times over the course of this season that he would be ‘ready’ to return to Serie A football, both mentally and physically.

Totti: ‘We still have time’ before potential Serie A return

The legendary former Roma captain said on Friday that he still has time on his hands when it comes to making a return to football, but suggested that Ranieri will have the final say on whether he returns to the Stadio Olimpico in some capacity.

“We’ll see, we’ll evaluate. We still have time,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia when asked about a potential return to Serie A.

The 2006 World Cup winner was speaking at a tennis event in Dubai.

He also explained that Ranieri, who will step into a directorship role at Roma at the end of the 2024-25 season, will have a say on who could come in at Roma, both in terms of players and coaches.

“He will become a director of Roma next year, so he will have a say and will decide who to call,” Totti said.

When asked if he has had any direct contact with the caretaker Roma manager, he said: No, not yet.”
