Totti ready for Destro and Liverpool

Francesco Totti welcomed Mattia Destro to Roma and warned they will “play open and attacking football” against Liverpool in Boston.

News is filtering through from Italy that Destro has finally agreed personal terms and signed a five-year contract with the Giallorossi.

“He is a player who joins an already competitive team. He’ll be very welcome and his arrival will really improve the squad,” said Totti.

Roma are in America for their summer tour and will play against Liverpool at Fenway Park tomorrow evening at 23.30 UK time, a special friendly considering both clubs are owned by the same company.

“It is certainly different playing here rather than in a football stadium. I think it’ll be a wonderful day of sport and we’ll try to entertain the fans who come to see the match.

“This is a very important test against one of the strongest sides in Europe. We will play open and attacking football, as even if it’s a friendly, we want to make a good impression.

“It will be a fascinating match between two great clubs and what’s more Boston is the city of our President. It was only right to participate in this event. My legs are holding up better, but still very tired seeing as we are doing heavy physical work.

“Boston is a beautiful city, though we have so far been mostly training and haven’t been able to see too much of it.”
