President James Pallotta agreed to extend Roma captain Francesco Totti's contract, and will announce this on Monday.

It's been a difficult year for the Giallorossi icon, as he clashed with new Coach Luciano Spalletti and was given limited playing time.

At various points it seemed like this might be Totti's last season with his club, but recent reports suggest this won't be the case.

Both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport are running the line that Pallotta has agreed to extend the captain's contract.

Both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport are running the line that Pallotta has agreed to extend the captain's contract.

The two had an exchange by phone, with the aid of an interpreter, and the captain allegedly told his friends that he would be playing for another year.

Pallotta was ultimately convinced by the player's performances on the pitch, which saw him saving the team's results against Atalanta and Torino, and also by reports that Totti and Spalletti are now at peace with each other.

The extension will apparently be communicated officially on Monday, after Roma-Genoa, which is due to be played at 18:00 UK time at the Stadio Olimpico.

The idea is to let the final game against Chievo on May 8 be an occasion to celebrate. The club is also believed to have a great deal of business plans surrounding Totti for the next season, as seeing him play against the other Italian greats as well as in the Champions League could have a powerful effect on the brand.
