Former hero Francesco Totti believes he will return to Roma ‘sooner or later’ but admitted he has not been in contact with the new owner.

Totti was controversially shown the door by the Giallorossi after 25 years at the club, but he is open to a return and says he will gladly have a coffee with the Friedkin family.

“I don’t burn with the need to change, I have found something else that fascinates me,” Totti told La Repubblica. “Having made the premise clear, it’s natural to think that sooner or later, Roma and I will meet again.

“But I don’t know what the future brings, and above all, I don’t expect it to happen by sitting on the sofa at home, doing nothing.”

The former captain said he will wait for the invitation from the new owner, Dan Friedkin.

“When will I return to Rome? That’s not the right question. Too direct, this is a story of nuances. If you ask me when I will meet the Friedkin family, I’ll say: when they will invite me for a coffee.

“Honestly, I think they will. But at the moment, there has been no contact.”

Totti thinks Dan Friedkin has understood what it takes to run the Giallorossi and was happy to learn that his son, Ryan, moves to the Italian capital.

“Dan Friedkin quickly understood the fundamental thing,” Totti added. “In Rome, the owner must be physically present.

“The announcement that his son Ryan will come to live here goes in the right direction. [Former President James] Pallotta made mistakes because he decided based on reported news.

“The owner must live in direct contact with them."
