Francesco Totti expects a ‘great match’ in the Coppa Italia final between Atalanta and Juventus, praising the former and explaining why the latter cannot be counted out.

The Bianconeri have been considered underdogs ahead of the cup final, having won just two of their last 15 consecutive league matches, a run that has seemingly condemned coach Massimiliano Allegri ahead of the summer.

On the other side of the table, Atalanta are desperate to finally secure a trophy under Gian Piero Gasperini, who has transformed the club over the last eight years. They’re also competing in the Europa League final, where they’ll face Xabi Alonso’s high-flying Bayer Leverkusen.

Totti talks Coppa Italia final

Speaking to Sport Mediaset via TMW, Totti was first asked if he believes Juventus are underdogs for the Coppa Italia final.

“Honestly, I didn’t hear it, they are two great teams who are doing well. Atalanta are in a better moment, they have another final, but it will be a great match.”

He touched on his expectations for the final.

“It’ll be a great final, each coach has their own way of playing, they know how to set it up.”

Totti commented on if Atalanta have surprised him this season.

“No, they’ve been doing well for many years, this year very well. They’ve given consistency to the project, they have a great coach and great players.”

He was asked if the rumours surrounding Allegri’s future would affect Juventus.

“The players are always the last to know what the coaches are doing. I think it’s an internal thing, only they know the truth.”

Finally, Totti spoke about where the match will be decided.

“Everywhere, it’s a final and a one-off match. When you play these matches, you try not to concede goals in the meantime. Anyone (can decide it, ed.), anything can happen.”
