Francesco Totti has called for tomorrow’s Serie A encounter between Napoli and Roma to be solely about the football.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since Ciro Esposito’s fatal shooting hours before the Coppa Italia Final in Rome back in May, which a Roma ultra stands accused of.
In a personal statement on his official website, the Roma captain has followed his Coach and Rafa Benitez in appealing for tranquility ahead of tomorrow’s 2pm UK time kick-off in Naples, for which Giallorosso fans will not be permitted entry.
“I’ve always dissociated myself from all forms of violence, and I’ve reiterated this thought, thinking about tomorrow. I'm hoping that we will experience a celebration of pure sport,” Totti has written.
“As a father and a man, I want to give an embrace full of warmth to all the families who have been affected by deaths in football and sport.
“I think of the De Falchi family, the family of Ciro Esposito and that of Stefano and Cristian, the Sandri family…I feel close to all of those who have experienced disasters such as these.
“Many angels are watching us from above, and their first wish is that certain things do not happen again.”
