Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to officially agreeing on a deal to sign goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli as per multiple reports on Wednesday evening.
Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that an agreement in principle has been reached between the two clubs, involving a fee of €20m plus bonuses, with Empoli expecting a formal, written offer to be submitted by Thursday morning.
A €20m move would make Vicario the most expensive sale in Empoli’s club history.
The 26-year-old has been touted as one of the best-performing Italian goalkeepers over the course of 2022-23, lining up on 32 occasions for Empoli in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, conceding just 41 for the season.
Vicario joined Empoli two years ago in July 2021, initially signing on loan, before making his move permanent the following summer.
Since then, the Udinese academy graduate has gone on to make over 70 competitive appearances for the club, eventually finishing this season in 14th place.
