Tottenham and Atalanta have not reached an agreement over the transfer of Cristian Romero and Spurs have identified Fiorentina‘s Nikola Milenkovic as a possible alternative to the Argentinean centre-back.
Milenkovic sees his contract expire in June 2022 and he is expected to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer.
Fabio Paratici is an admirer of the Serbia international as much as he is of Romero.
The new Spurs director brought Romero to Juventus from Genoa before selling him to Atalanta last season and the Bianconeri had been linked with a move for the Fiorentina defender several times during Paratici’s reign in Turin.

According to Sky Sport Italia (via Tuttoatalanta), La Dea wants €45m plus €10m add-ons to sell Romero, while Tottenham don’t want to spend more than €45m bonuses included.
That’s why talks between the two clubs have been put on hold, with the North London side considering cheaper alternatives.
Bologna‘s Takehiro Tomiyasu remains a target, but Milenkovic is also on Tottenham’s radars and Spurs could begin negotiation for the Fiorentina defender if Romero’s transfer collapses.
