Italy international Andrea Belotti had his medical tests today, so tomorrow will begin training with Torino and have that crucial meeting with coach Ivan Juric, as Tottenham enter the fray.
The striker had been given extended summer vacation time after helping Italy win UEFA EURO 2020.
He arrived today for the traditional pre-season tests and will begin training on Tuesday with his club teammates.
Belotti’s future remains very much up in the air, as he has not yet agreed to a contract extension on a deal that only runs to June 2022.
New Granata coach Juric said he wanted some “clarification” from the forward on what his position was, preferring he move on if he’s not 100 per cent committed to the Toro cause.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Torino have offered a new contract for four years, worth €3.2m net per season.
However, his concerns are not so much the financial aspect as their ambitions, wanting at the age of 27 to aim higher than just avoiding relegation from Serie A.
There was interest from Zenit St Petersburg, but with Sardour Azmoun apparently staying there now, he is no longer a priority.
Tottenham Hotspur could consider him a target if Harry Kane manages to force through his transfer to Manchester City.
England captain Kane refused to turn up for pre-season training today, seen as an open act of hostility against Spurs.
Belotti is by no means their first choice should Kane leave, but he might be the most affordable and available at short notice.
