Destiny Udogie was signed by Tottenham in the summer but stayed with Udinese on loan, where he’s continuing to develop and show his strengths.

The 19-year-old Italian left back joined the Bianconeri on loan from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2021 before they made his deal permanent last summer, impressed after his incredible debut season in Udine. Six weeks later, Tottenham came onto the scene and picked up Udogie in a deal worth around €18m, leaving him in Friuli-Venezia Giulia for another year to continue his growth.

Speaking to La Repubblica, Udogie first discussed the big leap ahead of him following Tottenham’s move.

“Serie A helps you grow. The months I have left here on loan in Udine will be important to improve further. Mentally I’m here now. To say, I still haven’t heard from Conte.

“The Premier League doesn’t scare me anyway. The game is fantastic and I’ve always spoken English at home with my parents who were born in Nigeria.”

He revealed his dream to play for Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad.

“I was born here and my biggest dream now is to play for the senior national team. I will be 22 when the European Championship takes place in Germany and 24 in the year of the World Cup in America.”

Finally, Udogie revealed his interest in America and appreciation of basketball.

“In my spare time I play basketball, I’m passionate about it. My celebration after goals I borrowed from Steph Curry.”

Since his initial arrival in Udine, Udogie has made 44 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
