Sampdoria midfielder Harry Winks, who joined on loan from Tottenham in the summer, is reportedly considering undergoing an ankle operation.

The 26-year-old Englishman was a much-anticipated signing by the Blucerchiati in the summer but things have not gone well in Liguria. Winks has not made a single appearance for Sampdoria this season and last month coach Dejan Stankovic highlighted that he still hasn’t seen the player on the pitch yet.

As reported by Il Secolo XIX, Winks is still sidelined with an ankle injury and is torn between undergoing an operation or continuing a conservative treatment plan. The Englishman will meet with an international specialist on Monday next week, when he’ll make the final decision.

If Winks does undergo surgery, he’ll be out of action for around three or four months. In this scenario, Sampdoria could look to send the 26-year-old back to North London, although Tottenham would still prefer him to stay in Liguria regardless.
