Tottenham Hotspur are offering €40m for Cristian Romero, plus €10m in bonuses, whereas Atalanta’s asking price is €55m.

Reports are escalating rapidly in Italy and Argentina that Tottenham are closing on the centre-back.

Sky Sport Italia suggest he has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League side, but the two clubs now have to work out a transfer fee.

According to TyC Sports in Argentina, Tottenham have made a proposal for €40m cash plus up to another €10m in add-ons.

That takes them close to the €55m asking price, but Atalanta are in absolutely no rush to sell and can hold out if needs be.

They are well aware that at the age of 23, Cuti Romero is only just coming into his prime and can improve even further with another season in Bergamo.

Atalanta have qualified for the Champions League for the third season running and are strengthening the squad with a potential Scudetto push in mind.

His transfer value has already practically tripled, as he arrived last summer from Juventus, on loan with option to buy for €18m.
