Stefan de Vrij is one of Antonio Conte’s primary targets at Tottenham and there’s more than a reason why the Italian coach is optimistic about reuniting with the Inter defender.

De Vrij’s contract expires in June 2023 and the Nerazzurri seem unwilling to extend his stay at the club. The Netherlands international has had highs and lows this season, but coach Simone Inzaghi still strongly relies on him.

However, the Nerazzurri will likely need to sell another one of their stars in the summer to balance the books and De Vrij appears to be the primary candidate to leave.

According to reports in Italy, Inter are already preparing De Vrij’s sale, given that a number of solid centre defenders have been linked with a move to the Stadio Meazza. Torino‘s Gleison Bremer seems to be their No.1 option to replace the Netherlands international, but Borussia Monchengladbach Matthias Ginter is also on the Nerazzurri’s sights, given that Bayern Munich have put talks with the Germany defender on hold.

Alessandro Bastoni has recently signed a new contract with the Serie A champions and De Vrij’s defence partner Milan Skriniar will likely get a new deal, while the Serie A giants will listen to offers for the former Lazio defender at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old is on very good coach with his former boss Conte who will be looking for a new centre back in the summer, provided that he remains at Tottenham in 2022-23.

“Conte has had a great career because he’s always won,” De Vrij told DAZN in December.

“We won the title under Conte and you can see it now. Inzaghi has been working on a solid base and is doing an important season now.”
