Milan Coach Filippo Inzaghi is sure that striker Fernando Torres will come good for the Rossoneri – just like Hernan Crespo did.
Torres joined the Rossoneri on a two-year loan deal from English Premier League side Chelsea, but has struggled in Serie A, scoring only one goal in his nine appearances thus far.
Despite these struggles, Inzaghi – a former striker himself – is not worried, as he recalls Hernan Crespo having similar initial struggles when the two played together under Carlo Ancelotti.
“We’re on the right track,” Inzaghi assured fans in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“It just takes a little bit of patience. So far a lot of players have scored goals, just not the strikers, apart from Honda.
“Goals from Torres and Pazzini will come.
“I hope Torres will be like Crespo under Ancelotti, who for months didn’t score, then he broke his duck and became…Crespo.
“So far Torres has been struggling with an ankle injury, but now it’s better and I thought he played very well in Genoa [in a 2-2 draw with Sampdoria].”
Further discussing the game with Sampdoria, Inzaghi stated his belief that the game was the best the Rossoneri have played all season, and praised the attitude of his players.
“I think the game against Sampdoria was our best in terms of how we played.
“I saw that Arrigo Sacchi also wrote that, and it filled me with pride. We were a team. We still had minor faults which held us back, but we controlled the game.
“The roadmap has been drawn. I was actually expecting more problems.
“The spirit of the group has been amazing, it has never wavered. I can’t blame anything on these lads.
“Milan Foundation [the club’s charity to whom fines are donated] are mad at me, because so far I haven’t handed out a single fine!
“There was no lateness or bad behaviour. I’ve seen seriousness, hard work and dedication to the jersey.”
