The Spaniard is looking to recover his Atleti and early Liverpool form at San Siro, following completion this summer of a two-year loan move from Chelsea.

For the 30-year-old, coming to Milan had a sense of the inevitability to it.

“Milan came in for me even during my time at Atletico. Demetrio Albertini also encouraged me to play in Italy,” Torres has reflected this week to Panenka.

“And it is as if fate had expected me to be at San Siro.

“The coming together was only delayed, because the Rossoneri have always appreciated me and finally I have arrived here.”

Torres also reflected on his boyhood club Atletico, where he broke through before eventually leaving in a big money move to the Premier League.

“The fact that I have not won anything with Atletico is a weight that I will always carry in my heart, but I remain proud to have worn and defended that shirt.

“Why did I leave? Because I was progressing and going in one direction and the club were going in another. I needed something more. But, the Calderon is my only home.

“The current season? It is normal now that the fans will be a little down after losing some big players, but this must also be a source of pride for the club for the work they have done.”
