Fiorentina loanee Lucas Torreira sent his best wishes to his former Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli who has picked the No.11 for next season, suggesting that the Uruguay international will join the Tuscans permanently.

Arsenal dropped their new home kit for 2022-23 today, announcing that Martinelli will wear the No.11 next season. It’s the same shirt number that Torreira had been wearing at the Emirates Stadium during his time at the club.

The Fiorentina midfielder commented on Arsenal’s Instagram post announcing Martinelli’s choice.

“What number will I wear next year? Good luck amigo. I love you,” wrote the Fiorentina loanee.

Torreira joined Fiorentina on loan from Arsenal in the summer and has played a key role under Vincenzo Italiano this season.

The Tuscans have an option to make his move permanent for €15m and are determined to complete the deal over the next few weeks.

Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur revealed in February that Fiorentina wanted to sign his client permanently but warned that Arsenal were unwilling to sell for a lower price. Torreira, 26, has scored five goals in 30 Serie A appearances this season.
