The agent of Galatasaray midfielder Lucas Torreira confirms he ‘will have a meeting with Lazio next week’ to discuss a return to Serie A.

The Uruguay international spent most of his career in Italy with Pescara, Sampdoria and most recently a loan spell at Fiorentina.

Arsenal sold him to Galatasaray last summer for €6m, but he has been linked with another swing round the Peninsula for Lazio, who have qualified for the Champions League.

“Torreira is a player who had a great time at Pescara and Sampdoria, he was the best midfielder at Arsenal in the first season, but now he has fully matured and this last season was his most scintillating,” agent Pablo Bentancur told LaLazioSiamoNoi.it.

“I can say with certainty that Galatasaray have not put him on the market, specially as he easily reached all the conditions to get his contract bonuses.

“I have to be honest, I will have a meeting with Lazio next week for them to present their proposal. Lazio play in the Champions League and Lucas have always loved Italy.

“I want to be clear, he is not for sale, but business is business, and players are players. We have this meeting set up and will discuss it there. With all due respect for Lazio, we want to hear what they are offering.”

Torreira practically started his career at the Pescara youth academy in January 2014, before moving on to Sampdoria and then a €29m sale to Arsenal in the summer of 2018.

He was not happy with the Gunners, going out on loan to Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina before the €6m sale to Galatasaray last year.

The midfielder made 34 competitive appearances for the Turkish team this season, contributing one assist.

Another potential candidate to boost the Lazio midfield following their Champions League qualification is Jorginho, who is currently with Arsenal, but Torreira would be considerably cheaper than the Italy international.
