Lorenzo Insigne

Sky Sport Italia confirms Lorenzo Insigne has reached an agreement with Toronto FC, adding that the MLS side will announce his signing by Monday.

Insigne’s time at Napoli will be over at the end of the season when the 30-year-old will move to Canada.

Sky Sport Italia confirms that the Italian winger has reached an agreement with the MLS side and an announcement is expected by Monday.

Insigne will end the season at Napoli before joining Toronto FC in June.

He rejected a contract extension offer from Napoli. The Partenopei had offered him a €3.5m-a-year deal, less than his current €5m-a-year salary.

Insigne will reportedly sign an €11.5m-a-year deal in Canada with add-ons for €4.5m.

Contrary to what was reported over the last few weeks the figures are after taxes so Insigne will get almost €80m net in five years.

Insigne is a product of Napoli academy and has spent almost his entire career at the club, scoring 114 goals in 415 matches.

  1. I genuinely can’t believe this. Very very poor from ADL. No interest in bettering Insigne as a man and no interest in bettering Italian football in general. I’ve known some misers in my time watching football but ADL is right up there. My sympathies lie with Lorenzo and with Napoli fans.

  2. Its time for little dwarf to dissapear from football, goodbye lorenzo insigne, we will not miss you on european football fields… Have an american dream life, oh wait… Canadian….

  3. I will certainly miss him. The contract offer was pathetic and I don’t blame him. And he wouldn’t for one minute expect Napoli to match this Toronto deal – no doubt he just wants an offer which isn’t an insult.

  4. Hey “forza juve” this dwarf did more for Italy then your beloved del piero in fact del piero after the 2000 Euro screw up was stripped of # 10 and benched by Lippi when he took over. So if i were you i would go back in your hole or wherever your from which is probably a black hole like your team, as he carried Italy to Euro victory wearing # 10 after 50 + years.

  5. What!? Toronto, of all places!? What a coup for MLS, but honestly, they don’t deserve him. I get he needs to leave Napoli, but leaving Europe…didn’t think that was possible at this stage of his career.

  6. He does know that the National Team will not call him up right? They never call MLS players and I remember TO sports news and fans yelling at Conte to call him up for that Euro Giovinco that is and Giovinco was actually very hot at the time and Conte did not budge.

He Insigne did have that nice Belgium goal but the 2 playoffs game we need to have guaranteed finishers. There is no margin of error. Very dicey situation.

Ops I just had an epiphany-what if Insigne knows we won’t make it the playoffs and at same time his Napoli exec is humiliating him with pay cut so he’s taking the next train for Georgia-is that it, so much Serie A drama nowadays I find.

  7. Grow the sport. This is a good thing that he is coming to Canada. Do youbjave any idea how many italian immigrants are in Canada. He will be a legend to the fans and will help the game here grow more interest.
When giovinco came he sold out the most shirts and started selling out the stadium.

    This is a wise investment.

I am happy to see him play in MLS. Mls is not as talented as big clubs. But any one of those mls teams could easly compete with the lower end teams in serie A .

I am sad if he does not play for italy any more . I have italian born parents and always cheer for italy.

    I hope belotti comes!

  8. It will be Mimmo Criscito, not Belotti.

FORZA Juve, why the hate towards him? God forbid if a man puts bread on his family’s table. Blame ADL. He couldn’t close the gap with a lousy 500K to make it an even 4M? Insigne’s camp did bent a little. It takes both sides.

You people have no idea how rich Toronto FC and all their parent company’s are. Bell Media & Rogers Media, owner of a 1 Billion ice hockey team, 2 Billion NBA team, the arena they play in. The calcio side is a side project for them. A few years ago they were kicking the tires on purchasing Parma.

His salary is like what they pay one of their average NBA players.
