Toronto want to bring Napoli talisman Lorenzo Insigne to the MLS ahead of the start of the season.

The 30-year-old Italian winger, who is a product of Napoli’s youth system, has been a core part of Luciano Spalletti’s squad this season, but the team have failed to tie him down to a new contract. His current deal expires in June next year.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Toronto want to sign Insigne on a deal reminiscent of the one that saw Sebastian Giovinco move to the Canadian city, paying close attention to his contract renewal talks with the Partenopei.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has offered Insigne a four-year contract worth €3.5m net per season, but the Italian winger wants the same wages that he receives now – €5m net per season. Talks are at a completes standstill and there’s a serious chance that he’ll leave the club in the next six months.

Toronto are ready to offer Insigne a four-year contract worth €7m net per season plus add-ons, and they are keen to secure his services ahead of the start of the MLS season, which is scheduled for March.
