Stade Rennais have officially signed forward Mbaye Niang from Torino on a permanent basis.

Niang spent the past season on loan at Rennes, scoring 14 goals in all competitions.

The French side retained a €15m option to buy, and they announced on Thursday morning that it had been exercised.

The 24-year-old came to the fore when he joined Milan in the summer of 2012, four months before his 18th birthday.

However, the Senegalese managed just 12 goals in his five seasons at San Siro, while a subsequent move to Torino was similarly fruitless.

Toro have now raised €23.5m in sales, despite the summer transfer window in Italy not opening until July, with loan deals for Adem Ljajic and Danilo Avelar also being made permanent.
